Mazda 6e: buying guide for the new 100% electric sedan
Mazda is returning to the midsize sedan segment after a few years’ absence, and this time it’s going all-electric. Good news for individual buyers: the Mazda 6e is eligible for the “Coup de Pouce” electric car incentive (Ministry of Ecological Transition) for eligible households, subject to the ADEME environmental score. The Mazda 6e (not to be confused with the Mazda e6, a common typo) is a 4.92-meter sedan built in China through the Changan Mazda joint venture and then imported to Europe. With a design that has just been awarded the title of World Car Design of the Year 2026, up to 552 km of combined WLTP range (692 km in urban driving for the Long Range version), and 165 kW DC fast charging, it takes on the Tesla Model 3 and the BYD Seal head-on. An overview of the new model available in France.
Introducing the Mazda 6e
The 6e marks Mazda’s return to the D-segment following the discontinuation of the previous gasoline-powered Mazda 6. But the approach is radically different: 100% electric, manufactured in China through the Changan Mazda joint venture, and a deliberately aggressive pricing strategy. With a starting price of €42,990, Mazda aims to appeal to those still hesitating between a Tesla Model 3 and a BMW i4, playing the card of sleek design and comprehensive standard equipment.
In terms of style, the 6th generation features a coupe-sedan silhouette typical of the genre, with a sleek and elegant design by Mazda’s studios. The interior reflects Japanese design principles: clean lines, a 14.6-inch touchscreen, digital instrumentation, and high-quality finishes. Standard features include a large panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a premium audio system.
Mazda 6e Pricing: The Entire 2026 Lineup
The Mazda 6e has been available in France since late 2025, starting at €42,990 (including tax) for the base model (68.8 kWh LFP battery). The Long Range version, which features an 80 kWh NMC battery and offers a range of 552 km (WLTP), is priced at €44,500 (including tax) in the Takumi trim. The Takumi Plus trim, at the top of the range, adds Nappa leather upholstery, a two-tone steering wheel, and an electric sunshade for the panoramic roof for an additional €2,000.
By way of comparison, the rear-wheel-drive Tesla Model 3 starts at around €39,990 and the BYD Seal at around €41,500 (see our 2026 premium electric car comparison). The Mazda 6e is therefore priced slightly above these two competitors, but offers a higher standard of equipment and a more mainstream design. For the 6e, the value for money is the main selling point.

Mazda 6e Technical Specifications
Two powertrains are available. The Standard Range version delivers 258 hp (190 kW) to the rear axle with a 68.8 kWh LFP battery, offering a WLTP range of 479 km. The Long Range version features an 80 kWh NMC battery and a slightly less powerful 245 hp (180 kW) motor, with a claimed range of up to 552 km (WLTP). Torque is 320 Nm on both versions.
The architecture is a classic rear-wheel-drive layout, which prioritizes balance and driving pleasure. The 0-100 km/h time is rated at 7.6 seconds for the Standard version and 7.8 seconds for the heavier Long Range version. Not exceptional on paper compared to the Tesla Model 3 Performance, but more than sufficient for daily use and highway driving.
The interior is dominated by a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 14-speaker Sony audio system. The trunk offers 466 liters of cargo space, which expands to 1,074 liters with the rear seats folded down, complemented by a 72-liter front trunk (frunk) for the charging cable. The standard Takumi trim features high-quality synthetic upholstery (available in beige or black) with contrast stitching, while the Takumi Plus takes the equipment to a premium level with suede-like fabric and Tan Nappa leather, and an electric sunshade for the panoramic roof.

Range and charging of the Mazda 6e
The Standard Range LFP version achieves 479 km WLTP in the combined cycle, placing the 6e in the upper-middle range of the segment (Mazda claims 605 km in the more lenient WLTP urban cycle). The Long Range NMC version goes up to 552 km WLTP combined, and even 692 km in urban driving according to Mazda—enough to cover the Paris-Bordeaux route in one go without dipping into the red zone. Expect 15% less range in winter conditions.
For charging, the Standard Range version supports 165 kW DC, allowing you to regain 235 km in just 15 minutes (according to Mazda France data, on a 165 kW DC charger starting from 30% charge). The Long Range version, equipped with the larger NMC battery, is limited to 90 kW DC and takes about 47 minutes to go from 10% to 80%, due to the thermal sensitivity inherent in NMC chemistry. This is one of the model’s paradoxes: the entry-level version charges faster than the top-of-the-line model. At home, the onboard charger supports 11 kW AC charging via a three-phase outlet for a full overnight charge.

Should you go for the Mazda 6e?
The Electra editorial team’s take. The 6th-generation model is one of the best electric sedans in its segment in 2026, boasting a design that won the 2026 World Car Design of the Year award, a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, and features (Sony 14-speaker system, color head-up display, panoramic sunroof, 360° camera) that exceed the segment average. The fact that it is manufactured in China by Changan Mazda may put off those looking for a “Made in Japan” vehicle, but the partnership is long-standing and quality control is rigorous. The value for money is excellent, and the 165 kW charging capability is a real asset for long trips. Note: The Mazda 6e is eligible for the CEE incentive (€400 for individuals; amount varies for businesses depending on fleet size).
Who is it for? Buyers who were torn between the Tesla Model 3, BYD Seal, and entry-level BMW i4. Drivers who want a classic sedan without falling into Tesla’s minimalist style. Fans of Japanese design and meticulous finishes who feel cramped in a Model 3. The only real downside: Mazda’s service network in France is less extensive than Renault’s or Peugeot’s, so check availability near you before signing the contract.
