Hyundai Ioniq 9: buying guide for the large 7-seat electric family SUV
Over five meters long, seven seats across three rows, up to 620 km WLTP range in rear-wheel drive: the new Hyundai Ioniq 9 fills a glaring gap in the premium electric family SUV segment. While the Volvo EX90 and Kia EV9 have been hogging the spotlight, Hyundai enters the fray with a solid spec sheet, three powertrain options, and three trim levels to choose from: Creative, Executive, and Calligraphy. At purchase, the Coup de Pouce electric vehicle incentive (Ministry of Ecological Transition) is not available in this segment (price exceeds €47,000), but corporate tax incentives remain relevant for fleet purchases. Here’s an overview of the prices, features, and configurations available in France.
Introducing the Hyundai Ioniq 9
The Ioniq 9 is the new flagship of Hyundai’s 100% electric 2026 lineup. Built on the 800-volt E-GMP platform shared with the Kia EV9, it measures 5.06 meters long and offers an interior volume that rivals that of large luxury sedans. Hyundai has designed it as a premium family SUV built to tackle long journeys without worrying about charging or space on board.
The French lineup comes in three versions based on the powertrain: a 218-hp rear-wheel-drive entry-level model, a 307-hp HTRAC all-wheel-drive mid-range model, and a 428-hp HTRAC top-of-the-line Performance model. The batteries remain identical at 110.3 kWh of usable capacity, placing the Ioniq 9 among the longest-range electric SUVs on the market.
Hyundai Ioniq 9 Pricing: The Entire 2026 Lineup
The starting price is set at €69,900 (including tax) for the rear-wheel-drive Creative version. As a guide, Hyundai offers the Creative on a long-term lease starting at €1,009 per month (with an initial payment of €1,009 thanks to a €400 CEE incentive), making the switch to electric more accessible for fleets and frequent drivers. For the Executive trim, which is more fully equipped and available with HTRAC all-wheel drive, the starting price rises to €81,500. At the top of the range, the Calligraphy starts at €86,900 and offers a unique 6-seat configuration with swivel seats in the second row.
By way of comparison, the Kia EV9 (its direct technical cousin) starts at around €73,000, and the Volvo EX90 starts at €95,500. Hyundai is therefore positioning its Ioniq 9 in a slightly more affordable price bracket than its German or Swedish counterparts, making it one of the best value-for-money options in the premium 7-seater segment in 2026.

Hyundai Ioniq 9 Technical Specifications
Three powertrains are available. The Creative Propulsion model delivers 218 hp thanks to an electric motor on the rear axle. The mid-range HTRAC version boosts power to 307 hp with two motors (one per axle), providing permanent all-wheel drive. At the top of the range, the HTRAC Performance delivers 428 hp and offers performance worthy of a sports sedan, despite its 2.4-ton weight.
The 110.3 kWh usable lithium-ion battery is standard across all three powertrain options. The 800V electrical architecture enables ultra-fast charging up to 350 kW peak at the most powerful stations, and a charge from 10% to 80% in just 24 minutes under optimal conditions.
In terms of equipment, the Executive and Calligraphy trims add a head-up display, Matrix LED headlights, a 14-speaker Bose audio system, and Nappa leather upholstery on the top-of-the-line version. Wheel sizes range from 19 to 21 inches depending on the trim level. Trunk volume reaches 908 liters with the third-row seats folded down, or 338 liters in the 7-seat configuration. With the second and third-row seats folded down, volume increases to 2,494 liters.

Range and Charging of the Hyundai Ioniq 9
The Creative rear-wheel-drive version achieves up to 620 km of WLTP range in the combined cycle, with 19-inch wheels. This is an excellent figure for an electric SUV over 5 meters long, and it allows for a stress-free drive from Paris to Lyon or Paris to Geneva in one go, even when fully loaded. The HTRAC all-wheel-drive versions naturally have a slightly lower range, around 555 to 580 km WLTP depending on the configuration.
The 800-volt architecture is a real game-changer on long trips. Charging from 10% to 80% takes 24 minutes at a compatible ultra-fast charging station—just the time it takes to have lunch. Fifteen minutes is enough to regain 304 km of WLTP range under optimal conditions, or just over 200 km in ten minutes. At home, the onboard charger supports an 11 kW AC charging station for a full overnight charge.
Performance and driving: how does Hyundai’s large SUV stack up?
In the 428-hp Performance version, the 0-100 km/h time drops below 6 seconds. Not bad for a 2.4-ton vehicle. The 218-hp rear-wheel-drive version prioritizes efficiency over pure performance, with a time of around 9 seconds. On the road, the press test highlights the driving comfort, the careful soundproofing, and the chassis’s rigidity, despite the vehicle’s imposing size.
Regenerative braking can be adjusted to four levels, from automatic mode to i-Pedal mode, which allows for one-pedal driving. This is practical in the city, but also helps optimize range on the highway by recovering kinetic energy instead of dissipating it as heat in the brake discs.

Should you go for the Hyundai Ioniq 9?
The Electra editorial team’s take. For families torn between a large gas-powered minivan and a premium electric SUV, the Ioniq 9 addresses most of the concerns: 7 true passenger seats (the third row comfortably accommodates adults on average trips), 620 km of real-world range, ultra-fast charging, and Hyundai’s 5-year unlimited-mileage warranty. Starting at €69,900 for the base model, the value for money is among the best in the segment.
Who is it for? Large families looking for a single vehicle for weekends and vacations. Premium fleets looking for a prestigious company car. Buyers of the Volvo XC90 or Mercedes GLE who aren’t ready to commit to the EX90’s €95,000 starting price. For singles or childless couples, the Ioniq 5 remains a better fit—it’s more agile in the city and €20,000 cheaper.
