An Electric SUV That Revolutionizes Fast Charging

The XPENG G6 transforms the electric mobility experience with its 5C charging technology. This innovation allows you to recover 400 km of range during a simple 12-minute coffee break at a compatible station. The 800V architecture, combined with the XHP 3.0 thermal management system, allows a maximum charging power of 451 kW on the Long Range and Performance versions.

This technical performance places the G6 ahead of its main competitors. The Tesla Model Y requires 27 minutes for a similar cycle with its maximum 250 kW. The Hyundai Ioniq 5, renowned for its fast charging, takes 18 minutes with 350 kW. The Volkswagen ID.5 Pro lags far behind with its maximum 135 kW. The Mercedes EQE SUV and BMW iX xDrive50, despite their premium claims, are limited to 170 kW and 195 kW, respectively.

The 5C charging technology represents a major advancement for the industry. It allows the G6 to absorb up to 5 times its nominal capacity per hour, compared to 1.5 to 2 times for most current vehicles. This technical feat results from three major innovations: optimized battery-to-pack cells, a bidirectional liquid cooling system, and an intelligent Battery Management System (BMS) capable of managing extreme energy flows without premature degradation.

Convincing Performance and Range

Two Versions for All Needs

The XPENG G6 range comes in two powertrains in France. The RWD Long Range (rear-wheel drive) version develops 295 horsepower with an 80.8 kWh LFP battery for 525 km of WLTP range (535 km with 18-inch wheels). This configuration prioritizes efficiency with 440 Nm of torque and a consumption of 17.9 kWh/100 km. The 0-100 km/h is achieved in 6.7 seconds with a top speed of 202 km/h. Its price is set at €46,990.

The AWD Performance version increases to 485 horsepower in a dual-motor configuration, with the same 80.8 kWh LFP battery offering 510 km of WLTP range. The torque reaches 660 Nm thanks to the two permanent magnet motors ensuring all-wheel drive. This sporty version achieves 0-100 km/h in just 4.13 seconds while maintaining the same top speed of 202 km/h. The consumption remains controlled at 18.4 kWh/100 km. Offered at €50,990, it remains significantly cheaper than equivalent premium electric SUVs.

Both versions feature ultra-fast charging at 451 kW, allowing a 10 to 80% recharge in just 12 minutes on compatible stations. AC charging reaches 10.5 kW (5 to 100% in 9.2 hours). The 6 kW V2L system allows powering external devices via a 230V outlet. The maximum towing capacity is 1,500 kg with an optional tow hitch. The trunk offers 571 liters of volume, expandable to 1,374 liters with the seats folded down.

An Advanced Technological Platform

Built on the SEPA 2.0 platform, the G6 integrates the latest technological advancements from XPENG. This modular architecture with an 800V system, specifically developed for electric vehicles, optimizes interior space while reducing overall weight. The flat floor releases generous living space despite compact exterior dimensions: 4.758 meters long, 1.92 meters wide, and 1.65 meters high, with a 2.890-meter wheelbase.

The XPILOT ASSIST semi-autonomous driving system uses a unique Orin-X chip and numerous high-definition sensors. This configuration allows assisted driving with adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane-centering control (LCC), automated lane change (ALC), and advanced automatic parking (EAP 2.0). The system automatically manages lane changes, navigation in traffic jams, and has a 360° panoramic view.

The futuristic interior includes a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The XPENG XOPERA 2.0 audio system with 18 speakers (including 2 integrated into the driver's headrest) delivers immersive power. The automatic climate control with heat pump and intelligent XHP 3.0 thermal management system maintains optimal temperature in all seasons.

The Nappa leather seats, ventilated and heated, are electrically adjustable in 8 positions on the driver's side and 6 on the passenger's side with a memory function, offering comfort worthy of the premium segment. The 2.12 m² panoramic roof with tinted silver glass and 99.99% UV protection provides exceptional brightness. The electric tailgate facilitates loading luggage into the 571-liter trunk, expandable to 1,374 liters with the rear seats folded down.

An Aggressive Pricing Strategy Against Tesla

XPENG is adopting an offensive pricing strategy to penetrate the European market. The RWD Long Range version starts at €46,990, competitively positioned against the Tesla Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive at €44,990. The AWD Performance version at €50,990 remains significantly cheaper than the Model Y Performance at €59,990 while offering comparable performance with its 485 horsepower and 0-100 km/h in 4.13 seconds.

These prices already include comprehensive equipment that Tesla charges as options: XHP 3.0 heat pump and thermal management system (€1,300 at Tesla), front and rear Nappa leather seats that are heated, ventilated, and massaging (several thousand euros in options), 360° panoramic vision system (€1,000), complete XPILOT ASSIST system without subscription (€7,500 for Tesla's Enhanced Autopilot). The equipment-to-price ratio favors the Chinese manufacturer, with potential savings of over €10,000 for equivalent equipment.

Compared to other European competitors, the price advantage remains significant. The Volkswagen ID.4 GTX starts at €59,990, the BMW iX xDrive40 at €77,300, and the Mercedes EQE 350 SUV at €79,900. Even Korean alternatives like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (€47,400) or Kia EV6 (€47,990) struggle to compete with the G6's performance-to-price ratio.

Charging Infrastructure: Key to Success

The G6's ultra-fast charging requires compatible 800V fast-charging stations. The Electra network is currently deploying stations up to 400 kW on major French roads, perfectly suited to the vehicle's capabilities. These next-generation installations integrate a liquid cooling system for cables, maintaining maximum power even in summer. Drivers can locate Electra charging stations via the app integrated into the G6's infotainment system, with automatic calculation of optimal stops on long journeys.

XPENG announces the deployment of 50 proprietary stations in Europe by the end of 2025, mainly on strategic motorway routes. These exclusive installations, equipped with 8 to 12 charging points of 480 kW each, will guarantee access to maximum performance without waiting. A partnership with Shell Recharge Solutions will add 5,000 fast-charging points accessible with preferential rates for G6 owners.

Compatibility with the European CCS2 standard ensures access to over 400,000 public charging points in Europe. The XPENG app integrates the Ionity, Fastned, Allego, and Total Energies networks with automatic payment without a card or badge. The thermal preconditioning system automatically activates battery heating or cooling when approaching a station to optimize charging speed.

Availability and After-Sales Service in France

The first deliveries began in 2024 at XPENG dealerships in Paris, Lyon, and Nice. The network currently has 25 sales points with a goal of 50 sites by 2027. Each dealership has a specialized workshop with trained technicians and a stock of spare parts ensuring minimal downtime.

The manufacturer's warranty covers 7 years or 160,000 km on the vehicle (5 years or 120,000 km standard warranty + 2 years or 40,000 km extended warranty). The battery benefits from 8 years or 160,000 km coverage. This warranty, transferable to the second owner, supports the vehicle's resale value.

The brand offers attractive maintenance contracts from €29 per month, including annual services, OTA software updates, and 24/7 assistance. A network of 150 Euromaster and Speedy partner centers ensures after-sales service throughout the country for routine operations. The mobile app allows appointment scheduling, intervention tracking, and even some remote diagnostics.

Our Verdict: A Credible Alternative to the Model Y

The XPENG G6 undeniably shakes up the family electric SUV segment. Its ultra-fast charging is a real game-changer for long trips, virtually eliminating range anxiety. The generous equipment, solid performance, and competitive price form a particularly appealing package for families looking for their first premium electric vehicle.

Some reservations remain, however. The resale value is still uncertain for a brand not yet widely known to the European public. The distribution network under construction could complicate testing and purchasing in some regions. The Chinese origin may still deter some buyers despite manufacturing quality now meeting European standards.

For early adopters seeking innovation and optimal value for money, the G6 represents a particularly relevant option against Tesla's dominance. Families regularly making long trips will appreciate the lightning-fast charging at fast stations. A Paris-Marseille trip with a single 12-minute stop, a Lyon-Barcelona trip without range anxiety: the XPENG G6 redefines the possibilities of electric travel.
