BYD 2026 electric range: models, range and charging
From the Dolphin Surf city car to the seven-seat Tang, BYD now sells eight 100% electric cars. The Atto 3 has given way to an Atto 3 EVO that is much quicker at the charger, and the Tang announces 530 km thanks to its 108.8 kWh battery. All of these cars share the Blade lithium iron phosphate battery developed by the group, and all of them charge at fast stations with a CCS connector. Their range, pricing and charging behavior nevertheless differ sharply from one model to another, and the available lineup can vary by country.
BYD, a battery specialist turned carmaker
Founded in 1995, BYD first built its business on batteries before becoming one of the leading makers of electric cars. This origin explains its strategy: the group designs and produces its own cells, which gives it control over the most expensive part of an electric car. Depending on the market, the brand offers both a 100% electric range and a plug-in hybrid range, called Super Hybrid, which should not be confused with the first.

Several models exist under a very similar name in a DM-i version, meaning plug-in hybrid: Atto 2 DM-i, Seal U DM-i, Seal 6 DM-i, Sealion 5 DM-i or Dolphin G DM-i. This article only covers the 100% electric versions. The group also has a premium brand, Denza.
The Blade battery, the centerpiece of the range
The Blade battery, fitted across the whole electric range, is based on lithium iron phosphate chemistry, with no nickel or cobalt. Its elongated, blade-shaped cells fit directly into the pack. BYD claims about 50% better use of space compared with a conventional battery, more than 5,000 charge and discharge cycles, and a nail penetration test passed without flames or smoke.
LFP chemistry tolerates full charges well and proves durable over time. The trade-off is a lower energy density than nickel batteries, which BYD offsets by integrating the cells. BYD announces a battery warranty of eight years or 250,000 km, with a guaranteed minimum state of health of 70%, and the exact terms may vary by country.
An electric range of eight models
Dolphin Surf, the entry point of the range
At 3.99 meters long, the Dolphin Surf is the city car of the range. It comes in three trim levels. The Active makes do with a 30 kWh battery, 88 hp and 220 km WLTP, with fast charging at 65 kW. The Boost moves up to 43.2 kWh for 322 km, the best range in the Surf lineup. The Comfort keeps the same battery but climbs to 156 hp, for 310 km. The 43.2 kWh versions charge at 85 kW and go from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes.
The Atto 2, a compact SUV in a single trim
The Atto 2 measures 4.31 meters and is offered in Comfort trim. Its 64.8 kWh battery lets it announce 430 km WLTP. Its fast charging reaches 155 kW, for a 10 to 80% charge in 25 minutes, and its motor develops 204 hp.
Dolphin: 427 km of range
The Dolphin, at 4.29 meters, is offered in Comfort and Design. It carries 60.4 kWh, 204 hp and claims 427 km WLTP. Its fast charging reaches 110 kW, for a 10 to 80% charge in 36 minutes.
The Atto 3 EVO moves up a category at the charger
The Atto 3 EVO replaces the Atto 3. Its 74.8 kWh battery accepts 220 kW of direct current and goes from 10 to 80% in 25 minutes. The rear-wheel-drive Design version, with 313 hp, announces 510 km WLTP. The all-wheel-drive Excellence develops 449 hp, does 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and announces 470 km. The trunk grows to 490 liters, complemented by a 95-liter front trunk.
Seal: up to 570 km for the sedan
The Seal, a 4.80-meter sedan, starts in Design and goes up to the all-wheel-drive Excellence. With 82.5 kWh, it announces 570 km WLTP in Design and 520 km in Excellence. The latter develops 530 hp and goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. Fast charging peaks at 150 kW, for a 10 to 80% charge in 37 minutes.
Two family SUVs, the Seal U and the Sealion 7
The electric Seal U, at 4.79 meters, is offered in Comfort with 71.8 kWh and 420 km, and in Design with 87 kWh and 500 km. Its fast charging reaches 115 or 140 kW depending on the battery, for about 42 minutes from 10 to 80%. Sleeker with its coupe SUV line, the Sealion 7 offers 82.5 or 91.3 kWh, up to 502 km WLTP, and 230 kW of charging on the Excellence version, which goes from 10 to 80% in 24 minutes.
The Tang and its seven seats
The Tang tops the range with its seven seats, all-wheel drive and 4.97 meters. Offered in Flagship trim, it now gets a 108.8 kWh battery that gives it 530 km WLTP. Its 380 kW of power lets it reach 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Fast charging reaches 170 kW, for a 10 to 80% charge in 46 minutes.

Safety: top Euro NCAP results
All BYD electric models assessed by Euro NCAP have earned five stars. The Dolphin, the Seal, the Seal U and the Tang were tested in 2023, the Dolphin Surf and the Sealion 7 in 2025. The Seal U scores 90% for adult protection, the best score in the electric range, and the Sealion 7 peaks at 93% for child protection. The Atto 2 and the Atto 3 EVO do not yet appear in the results published by Euro NCAP.

Charging your BYD on the Electra network
The whole BYD electric range uses the CCS connector and charges at our fast charging stations, whose charge points deliver up to 400 kW. No BYD model reaches this power; the value of a powerful station lies in the headroom, which lets each car charge at its own maximum. The gap is clear within the range: an Atto 3 EVO at 220 kW goes from 10 to 80% in 25 minutes, whereas a Seal at 150 kW needs 37. If your BYD is compatible with Autocharge, you just activate the feature once in the app and later charges start as soon as you plug in.
Without a subscription, the price per kilowatt-hour depends on the rate in force in your country, which can vary with how busy the station is when using the app and with the payment method. The Electra+ subscription reduces this rate on every charge:

BYD versus the competition
BYD focuses first on equipment and warranty, with six years or 150,000 km on the vehicle, eight years or 150,000 km on the drivetrain and eight years or 250,000 km on the battery, under the conditions in force in each country. On pricing, the discounts displayed make comparison harder: it is better to compare the price after discount with that of a Renault or a Volkswagen.
The Dolphin, the Seal and the Seal U charge more slowly than the Atto 3 EVO and the top version of the Sealion 7, which reach 220 and 230 kW.
