Incentives for the purchase of an EV: we explain everything you need to know!

Bonuses, scrapping premiums, conversion premiums... There are a lot of incentives to help you switch to an electric vehicle. But there are so many options that it becomes difficult to choose. Let's review them together!

First of all, there is the famous ecological bonus.

Electric cars are the stars of the show. Until June 30, 2022, the bonus is capped at €6,000 for a car worth less than €45,000 (€4,000 for a legal entity), equivalent to 27% of the vehicle's price, including the possible cost of renting the battery. The ecological bonus is €2,000 for a car with a price ranging from €45,000 to €60,000! All this applies to a purchase or rental of at least 2 years, without selling the year following the purchase or rental, and with a minimum of 6,000 km driven.

From July, the subsidy will be capped at €5,000 (€3,000 for a legal entity), at best; and €1,000 for a car worth more than €45,000.

Note that, for the purchase of a second-hand electric vehicle, you will also be entitled to a €1,000 bonus! (1)

In addition, there is the possible conversion premium.

This conversion premium is conditional on the scrapping of a Crit'Air 3 or older car or van (diesel-powered from before 2011, or petrol-powered from before 2006), and the purchase of a new or second-hand electric car worth up to €60,000. Based on your income level, you can then get incentives ranging from €1,500 to €5,000. (2)

Low Emission Zone Bonus

Please note that, depending on your local authority, you may be eligible for an additional “Low Emission Zone” bonus of up to €1,000. (2)

Clean vehicle microcredit

This loan is dedicated to low-income households wishing to buy a clean vehicle, as part of an environmental awareness campaign. The amount can reach €5,000, is tailored to the applicant's income and can be spread out over a maximum period of 5 years.

Greater Paris Metropolis

Paris completes the list of incentives with a subsidy ranging from €3,000 to €6,000.

Subsidies for installing charging stations at home

In addition to the Electra stations which have allowed you charging your vehicle since 2021, the French Government has introduced a tax credit for the acquisition and installation of a charging system for electric vehicles. Any taxpayer who is a homeowner, tenant, or free occupant is entitled to have a charging station set up at their primary or secondary residence. Their tax credit is worth 75% of the cost of the installation, up to a limit of €300 per charging system. (1) There is also the ADVENIR programme for all those living in apartment buildings. Without any income conditions, and in addition to the above-mentioned tax credit, the programme allows you to benefit from a 50% subsidy of the cost of supplies, equipment and construction works, with a limit of €960 for an individual charging station and €1,660 for the installation of a shared station.
